Why Group Activities Matter Before School Starts

Starting school is a big milestone.

Long before that day arrives, children begin learning important social skills through everyday experiences.

Group activities provide valuable opportunities to practise being around others in a safe and supportive environment.

Through music classes, children experience:

  • Taking turns

  • Sharing space

  • Watching others

  • Participating in a group

These skills develop naturally through play and interaction.

Importantly, children learn that they can be part of a group while still being themselves.

There is no pressure to interact before they're ready.

Simply being present is enough.

For many children, music classes offer their first experiences of belonging to a wider community beyond family.

These early experiences help build confidence and familiarity with group environments.

And because grown-ups remain close by, children can explore social situations knowing they have a safe base to return to.

It's not about preparing children academically.

It's about helping them feel comfortable, connected and confident.
